When not writing for Wrox or building a website, Richard works on open source webmail applications written for PHP PEAR, an open source repository of PHP applications. Richard also enjoys writing poetry, playing music, and painting. He maintains a website at www.smilingsouls.net that exhibits his personal and professional interests.

Okay for Old Edition
By Always Having 2 Learn Stuff
I liked this edition over the new one. There is still much unnecessary verbiage. Somebody needs to tell these guys they are not good writers. Their job is to teach a technical subject. Maybe involve some technical writers who work on developing educational materials--the ones they cut all the fluff out of.

There might be better books now, but this is a staple

This book is a great CSS reference. I'm sure it's a little outdated, but most of it is still applicable today. I actually bought two copies. One for me and another for an elderly lady designing a Church website. Here's an example of how good of a book this is. Using only this book, she made a killer, standards compliant website. To give you an idea of how good her technical skills are, well, she called me and we spent an hour over the phone teaching her how to use an FTP client to upload the site!
