Her motto: "Have fun and be confident." "Lots of people want to celebrate with Jewish food but don't know how," says Levy, "converts, nonJews married to Jews, even those who grew up Jewish but never had the traditional foods." The Passover section (subtitle: "What Happened When the Bread Didn't Rise") demystifies the complexity of preparing for the seder, offering such must-try recipes as Garlic Roast Lamb, Asparagus and Carrots with a tangy Lemon Dressing and her luscious Passover Pecan Chocolate Cake...Levy stresses that Jewish cuisine does not have to be high in fat and calories. Good Cookin'

If you've never had to make homemade Challah before (or you don�t even know what that is) and always wanted to learn how, this the book for you. Jewish Cooking for Dummies is the perfect book for the novice Jewish chef. It has recipes for every major holiday, and some not so major ones, with recipes for every day of the week. Faye Levy, who has previously written other books on Jewish cooking, delivers again with a well thought out book. There are tips for keeping kosher, for substitutions, for making things faster. It's everything you need if you�re just starting out in the Jewish kitchen or in a kitchen in general. The only real complaint I have is that the recipes are very basic and that there aren't enough to go around. Also, many to the recipes take longer to make than listed in the book, especially when you first start making them. You gradually improve, but plan a little bit of a cushion into your work time.

Nice overview with lots of tips as well

This book delivers on the promises made on it's back cover. It is well-written, well-organized, with up-to-date information. It's greatest strength comes from the "insider's view" it gives of professional digital photography. Readers who are not professionals can easily skip the extra information about goals such as selling photographs through the web. I read the book cover to cover, so I was sometimes annoyed when some points were repeated - but this is of course an asset for the reader who uses the book as a reference, who needs to get needed information from a given chapter, without undue cross-referencing between chapters. I would have liked more information on best practices for common image editing problems like altering exposure or color balance. Lots of well-reproduced color photographs - with interesting content as well.

A window into digital workflow

I'm a serious amateur photograph who made the switch to digital after 20 years of shooting film. This book really helped to clear up a lot of the confusion I was having about the flow of work from the point of taking a digital photograph to having something you can hang on your wall.

This book is primarily aimed at professional photographers who work in studios or shooting weddings and the like, but there is much in it for the amateur looking to get a better understanding how to work with a digital image. I found the chapters on digital photo processing, storage and backup, and image editing to be especially helpful and informative.

By breaking down the overall process into a series of discrete steps, the authors definitely made the book more readable and useful as a reference source.

This isn't a book about a specific piece of software or a single approach to capturing an image, but rather a somewhat philosophical examination of the basic process of digital photography from before you shoot the image until you have a finished print. It is not, however, devoid of practical applications and advice. On the contrary, the authors do a very good job at balancing the philosophical with the practical at every stage. As a result, I felt like I came away with a much deeper understanding of the overall process.

I'd highly recommend this book to any serious amateur looking for a complete discription of how to capture, store, edit, and print digital photographs.

As a serious photographer just now getting into digital, this book has been a godsend, clearly explaining and providing useful context to the often daunting new world of digital workflow issues. The all-color approach with plenty of photographic examples is an added, eminently useful benefit. I'm a Mac-based guy, but this book is platform-agnostic. Bottom line: When it comes to real world digital photo issues, Timacheff and Karlins cover it all beautifully.

A must read for all prospective and current personal trainers

I have been a personal trainer for nearly two years and I thought I had a handle on everything. I was given this book as a gift and I was blown away with the comprehensive information that it provides. I learned the most from the True Stories sections as they provided extra tips and really expanded upon the knowledge contained in this book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about becoming a personal trainer and encourage current personal trainers to read it as well. I only wish I would have read this book a lot sooner.

Awesome book!!!

This book is really good! It's funny and extremly informative. The only pitfall I think this book has is that it seems more geared towards people who are already certified. On the flip side though, it does have extremly good advice on becoming certified, taking exams, finding you niche etc...I would recommend this book to amatuers who are still in school (like me) and certified veteran personnal trainers alike :)

Must have!!!

I bought this book while I was pregnant with my first child. He is now three and a half and an awesome kid! We always get compliments on how well he acts in restaurants, other people's homes, movie theaters.....you get the picture. This book made me think about things that I never would have thought of, and I recommend it to everyone who is about to start a family and even to a few that already have kids and they can't handle them! My son is now a wonderful big brother to a baby sister and I could not be happier! I am ordering this book right now for a neighbor expecting her first.

Some good advice....some not-so-good

I'd recommend this book only if you've already read books by credentialed authors, since the authors only expertize is that they have children. They have obviously researched their material because they do offer some good advice. Here's a few books by experts I'd recommend: The Baby Book and The Discipline Book BOTH by Dr. William Sears, and Kid Cooperation (How to Stop Yelling, Nagging and Pleading) AND Perfect Parenting Dictionary BOTH by Elizabeth Pantley

WONDERFUL, HELPFUL AND FUNNY!!

This is a great resource book. My husband and I were about to have our first child and were nervous about what to do with him. This book answered a lot of our questions and helped us to remember to have a sense of humor about the whole child-rearing process. I love the flow chart on what to do when the baby is crying. This is a definately better book than those "What to expect..." books!

A field manual for the professional

I've been doing this for 9 years, and this is the best book I've seen on ETL procesing and its role in data warehousing. Before you start your data warehouse effort have your team read this book. Not just the ETL members...both the front/back room technicians will benefit from understanding the clear presentation of what can be in scope (dare I say, "best practice" yikes!) for ETL processing. The ideas for capturing highly valuable data quality and cleansing processes is no less helpful than the emphasis on loading the data unless it is misleading enmasse or so obviously flawed. The bias toward driving the data to the front room for presentation forces data quality issues to the surface where they must be dealt with and the loop to operational systems (or perhaps even flawed ETL transforms!) closed. Illustrates alternatives for dealing with the messy reality of suspended data, late arriving facts and dimensions. Use it as a guide for your ETL efforts. Buy this book, read it and then buy a few more for your team if you agree.

Great Cookbook

I love this cookbook. It gives the reader all sorts of helpful information on cooking with a slow cooker, along with many excellent recipes. Much better than some of the fancier slow cooker cookbooks, with recipes that take too much time. After all, I bought my slow cooker to SAVE time!

This is great for what it is:

This is not so much a recipe book as a manual that teaches you how best to use a crock pot. It teaches you how to convert your favorite recipes to a slow cooker, which is my favorite part of the book. It gives you some "master" recipes (meat sauce, chicken broth) that you can put in the freezer and use as a base for fast, delicious meals. That part of the book is also brilliant.
There aren't many recipes, but the great thing about the recipes they do have is that they are NOT the "add a can of condensed mushroom soup" variety. There are some hearty chicken and potato recipes that my family just adores - using real food such as herbes de provence and fresh mushrooms. But at the same time, the recipes are not complicated and the ingredients are easy to find in a regular grocery store.
