I was able to make the most of my time

I found everything I was looking for and more in this small, easy-to carry guide. Not only did I find exact prices for hotels and restaurants, I also learned about low country cooking, the architecture in Charleston, and a brief history. All of this was in this little guide that I could fit in my purse!

You need this for a first trip to Charleston.

I just returned from Charleston and used this book. It was a joy to use. Best little travel guide I've seen. It covers the major information for planning a trip and then it becomes a highly portable reference book while there. Highly recommend this book and "The Best Little Map Of Charleston". You need little else

Just an OK Guidebook

This guidebook gave an ok overview of the area and seemed to hit the highlights, but it also felt like it catered to the lowest common denominator. If you want to stick to the tourist sights, this is a good option. For a more in-depth guide with a realistic assessment of the attractions and at least some sense of local color, consider Moon Publications guides.

Marlene Targ Brill, author of Raising Smart Kids For Dummies, is an early childhood specialist, special educator, and mother. Finally - A Book on Da Vinci that I Can and Want to Read

I've always wondered who Leonardo Da Vinci really was. Sure, I slept though most of my Renaissance and Art History classes - but when the subject would turn to Da Vinci, I would always perk up. Did he really invent all of those wacky things? Was he the founder of modern medicine and anatomy? Was he a heretic? Was he the really the consummate Renaissance man? Now, after recently reading the Da Vinci Code - many of those old curiosities have resurfaced.

Da Vinci for Dummies tackles the complex subject of Da Vinci in the time-honored fashion I've come to expect from the Dummies series. If only this book had been around when I was studying Da Vinci in high school! It is written with a deep sense of respect, if not admiration, for its subject. As with other books in this series, Da Vinci for Dummies is both very fun and extremely easy to read, and it is organized in a format that makes finding answers to specific questions a breeze without having to search through the entire book. But, don't be deceived by its outward appearance and ease of use. I found this book to be as scholarly researched as it is easy to read. So, I would highly recommend it to anyone who is studying Da Vinci or preparing a report on the subject. (Shhhh - don't tell your teachers I said this!) However - I would also recommend it to anyone who has the slightest interest in this curious and profoundly important individual. If you've read the Da Vinci code, as I have, and wanted to know more - consider this book a quick and easy, yet surprisingly scholarly refresher, in the subject!

Beautifully Researched, Easy to Read and FUNNY !!

It's rare that a writer/editor has the depth of knowledge and confidence in her research to venture to have a little bit of fun with a historical/scientific figure of Leonardo's significance. Fortunately for readers, Jessica Teisch completely pulls it off. She writes this extremely easy to read and entertaining volume as if Leonardo was the next door neighbor she grew up with - In fact, at times, I was so entertained that it escaped my realization that I was actually picking up dozens of facts (i.e.; Leonardo was a lefty, a conplete non-conformist and that he actually didnt enjoy performing his exquisite anatomic dissections). All in all, this is a beautifully researched book that doesnt just educate you about Leonardo, but actually takes you all the way back to the Greeks and gives you a lovely tour up through the Rennaisance to boot. Where was this book when I was trying to impress historians and artists alike? Never mind - it's here now.

Just What I wanted!

I've always been fascinated by Da Vinci, but never had the time to read a long dense biography or really study him properly. Then I got a copy of Da Vinci for Dummies. It is just what the doctor ordered. It gave me the historical overview that I really wanted and enough specifics about his activities to make me want more. The book is well written, easy to read and truly capitaviting. He was such an interesting character and this book really opens the door. Bravo!

Nothing like the Bible from start to finish.

You'll get a kick out of this. It covers almost everything at great lenghts. After buying Max this would be the book for you. I guarantee that you'de be an animator at the end. You'll even crave for more once you've finished this for other reading materials. Highly recommended and nicely layed out.

Superb reference material!

I keep this book right next to my workstation, and use it all the time! I have been using Max for seven years, and this book still teaches me things I never knew. It may be a little rough for beginners, but no sense in walking when you can run. :) Not to mention it has a cd with it that has the entire book on it plus some basic 3d models to play with. I recommend this book to all my friends who want a good reference that covers it all.

thorough working of 3ds max, but...

While Murdock covers all aspects of 3ds max in great detail, he does very little to explain the actual process of modelling.

Although the 3ds max bible is full of tutorials, they almost always start from a given model and end with only a brief modification to it.

I would have prefered more tutorials that start from *scratch* and work to decent end-product.

Not bad, but it could be a lot better!

The coverage is reasonable, but there are a lot of omissions that would be difficult to justify. Check out The Best in Tent Camping, New England, by Lafe Low; the Frommer authors obviously did-- when they cover the same sites, the Frommer guide lifts whole phrases and sentences. On the other hand, Frommer covers a lot more sites, so you pretty much need both. Happy camping!

AN EXCELLENT RESOURCE FOR SOCCER-CHALLENGED PARENTS!

This is the best soccer guide I've found yet! It begins with basics (rules, positions, equipment) that really helped this soccer dummy feel at ease with the game. It progresses through the fundamentals to excellent instruction on preparing and coaching, and includes additional information that will make the game more enjoyable to watch as well. The 28 chapters and two appendices are well organized into seven sections: Getting Started, Fundamentals of the Game, Calling All Soccer Moms and Dads, A Spectator's Guide, From Saturday Soccer to the World Stage, The Part of Tens (which includes several soccer "top ten" lists that help you "talk the talk"), and Appendices (a glossary and a list of soccer associations). The book is well illustrated with all the photos and diagrams needed to learn to perform those essential, parental soccer duties. It also includes useful annotations of tips and warnings (injury prevention, player's tips, etc.) you need to know. The 16-page index allows this book to be useful as a field guide as well. As a soccer-challenged father with four daughters, I love this book. It is helping turn what was a chore into quality time with my girls.

Excellent intro for newcomers; solid content for veterans

Carries on the excellent tradition of the "for dummies" books: offers solid content and information for veteran soccer afficionados while organized as a well-written, well rounded introduction for the novice. Gives comprehensive overviews about all aspects of the game -- rules, strategies, the world of professional soccer (the leagues, tournaments, events), as well as an excellent history of the game and its development. It's refreshing to see a book for newcomers that doesn't strip things down - there is a wealth of well-researched information here that is useful for the experienced fan or participant.

Soccer for Spectators

An excellent refresher for those out-of-touch with soccer as well as for those just learning the game. As the parent of a former high school and college soccer player, but that was a few years back, I thought I knew the game. Now with 4 grandchildren playing, I wanted a easy-to-read refresher. This is it. I applaud the writer and encourage all who are players, or spectators, to spend a few evenings with this easy, and fun to read, book. It is very well done.
